Jane Eyre

Well just done with jane eyre.

I’d say this was one of the toughest read I ever did, not  in the sense of the   longest but in terms of understanding.

I have been trying since last 4 months to get myself in to this novel, but the English and the story line seemed

Pretty hard and hard to comprehend. Finally one day while in bus I started and continued reading from last week

And there is not one more English classic added in my reading list. J

Well so lets hear a brief discussion about jane eyre.

So jane is basically a orphan girl who lives at her maternal aunt. So the  aunt is rich but  too stern to consider

Jane as a daughter over her own three children , a boy and two girls. The boy is really naughty and does

Not let a single chance go to make his mother beat jane. Jane is interested in books and liked to read alone while

Her this mischievous brother always ruining this her small pleasure for her.

One day her aunt keeps jane locked in a room where she experiences a feel of ghost and falls ill. Doctors are called

And he asks her that whether she would like to go live in a hostel and go to school.

Jane happily says yes as she just need an escape from that wretched house. So the ten years old jane goes to a institution

For orphan girls. Where she gets befriended with some other girls, and excels in her education.

After her education is complete she joins there as a teacher and teaches for more 2 years. But after a while

Her interest starts getting change, and so does she wishes to go somewhere else where she can meet

New people, experience a new environment.

So she gives an ad for a governess post, and after a month she is called by a house from England as a governess.

When she reaches there she finds the place with two three servants and a little girl whom she will govern named

adele.

The house owner mr. Rochester lives out of this house most of the time.

One day when he returns he then tells something  about himself and adele. He tells her that adele is a daughter of

A welthy mistress from paris who was his mistress before she betrayed him. after few years he found that he has a girl

From her named adele whom she abandoned and ran away.

Rochester decides to take adele with him to England and make her a well mannered girl.

Rochester is very wealthy but not so handsome. He is almost 40  years old and falls for jane with her simplicity and

Accomplishments.

After a series of consequences he proposes her and they decide to get married. On the day of marriage

Jane discovers that Rochester has a wife already who lives in the same home they live, she is a mental women who

Has gone mad. So Rochester has kept a nurse to  take care of her and they keep her a secret from other people.

After discovering this janes is set aback and feels really bad for the consequences.

Rochester tells her the real story of his helplessness. He is the younger son of his family and his father being a greedy

Person wanted to marry his children to a wealthy family. So he made marriage of his younger son to a family in

Jamaika. A family who had mental illness as a genetically disorder.

After few years his wife became entirely mad, and she had to be kept locked in the room. Edward being upset with

The betrayal from his and her family, takes her to England and keeps her locked with a nurse and he himself goes

Out on world tours. 

He seeks for the love he hasn’t received in his life, while he finds a small child like jane his love of life. Although being

20 years elder than her he is attracted to her and wants to marry her, and then take her so far away somewhere. But

Then the truth gets discovered.

He begs jane to marry him, and she shall have all the happiness in the world. they will go so far away from this and

Shall never return.

But genuine and brave jane refuses to do so, as its against the Christine rules to marry when a man has a wife, let

Her be mad even.

Edward is very sad after hearing this from jane, but jane stays on her decision and leaves the house within fortnight.

She takes her remaining money and pays all to a carriage and goes so far away from the thronesfield.

She lives in poverty, begs for eating and one day finds a home which takes her in.

There lives three people and a servant. Who are two sisters and a brother. A brother is a philanthropist who

Wants to be a missionary and his sisters are governess in the part of England.

They take jane in and look after her until she is back on her health. Jane asks for a job to him, and

He arranges a job in a school as a school teacher for her.

So then jane starts living at the cottage near school.

After some days she discovers that some clergyman is inquiring about her, at first she fears as whether this is

Inquiry made for her by Rochester. But    this is made regarding a death will, which is of her uncle, her mothers

Brother who was unmarried and had received large fortune before he died and has kept all the money in the name of

His neice, aka jane.

So within a night jane has become a wealthy women with 25 thousand pounds.

After hearing this she gets known to one more thing that, her mother had two brothers.  One who was rich and the

Another one who was a clergy man in church.  And the people who look after hers, were actually her brothers and

Sisters. Ha!

Yes cousins.

She decides to split the amount she received and gave that within among those three.

After a while her cousin asks her to come with him to india as his wife to become a missionary.

Jane refuses at first but when she is starting to consider this option she gets a illusion as some one calling her

Name, so she decides to go seek for Edward Rochester.

When she reaches back in thronefield, she finds the house burnt down and when she inquires to the neighbors

She finds out that there was a huge fire in the house few months ago, which was set by the mad women in the house.

She also discovers that Rochester is still alive but a blind and cripple in the accident, and living with his servants.

Jane goes to meet him and finds him unable to do things by himself, and she gets all her love back.

Edward asks her to stay with him and they do get married.

Her cousin also goes to india alone, and adele gets her education in a institute where Edwards has put when

Jane left home.

And then they live happily together.

Well at first I had thought why would a young girl fall in love with a not so good looking man who is 20 years older

Than her. Although all the other plot was amazingly described I couldn’t get why jane falls in love with him.

My respect  for jane was tripled when she decides she wont go against the law and marry Edward

While he still has a wife.

Her every decision was measured and based on thoughtful and absolute thinking which seemed perfect.

I really enjoyed the book, not only for the complex and exciting plot, but also for the way it was described.

Sometimes we are too busy to notice how we feel about something, but I think I had never read something which

Explained how we actually feel emotionally and physically in the moment of confusion and fear.

Although the thoughts contradicted mine, I still think it was worth reading.

To Jane Eyre! And absolutely worthy novel!
